Highways

Highways  in and around Desha County make the area an excellent central location  for transportation to major points around the South and beyond. Arkansas State Highways 165 and 54 intersect with U.S. Highway 65 in Dumas. Highway 165 is a major truck route to I 55 in the Memphis area.

Dumas is just six miles north of the Arkansas corridor for proposed Interstate 69. State highway 65 is getting four lanes from Pine Bluff to Lake Village. The will provide interstate quality roadways in our area.

Railroads

Railroad transportation is offered by the Union Pacific Railroad with service to all major points.

Airport Facilities

The Dumas Airport, with a 5,000 lighted runway; paved surface and  intensity approach, is capable of  handling smallest and other corporate  aircraft. Telephone, fuel service and rest facilities are available at the airport.

Nearest Commercial Service - Little Rock National Airport (84 miles North) 

Waterways

River Transportation is available at two convenient access points year-round.                    

McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System

McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System (42 miles) provides barge transportation that links the Mississippi River and the nation's inland waterways.

Direct shipments may be made from the Port of Pine Bluff to foreign destinations.             

All major Barge lines provide service to the port. 

A 20-acre public terminal facility, located on the Arkansas River's largest slack water harbor, provides convenient and economical access to barge transportation. 

The public terminal is equipped to handle virtually any product, and can provide in-transit storage and local drayage services.

Yellow Bend Port

Yellow Bend Port (25 miles) is located on the Mississippi River and is equipped with a 40-ton overhead Gantry Crane, a 36 inch conveyor belt, a hydraulic truck dump and Toledo truck scales.
