Simmons First Bank Dumas was chartered on January 14, 1974 as Dumas State Bank. Mr. Merle Peterson was the person responsible for the establishment of a second bank in Dumas and served as our chairman until March 31, 1995. Over its 26 years of existence, the bank has had 3 Presidents: Ernie Ashford, James Hall, and Dennis Ferguson. Terry Wood is the current Vice President of the Dumas Branch.
The bank was sold to Simmons First National Corporation on April 1, 1995 and the name changed to Simmons First Bank Dumas. Over the years, Simmons First Bank Dumas has grown to over $34 million in assets. the bank provides financial services for the citizens and business' of Dumas and Desha County.
The bank is run by local management under the direction of a local board of directors. The board consists of 8area farmers and businessmen.
