Dumas Community Center
Built in 1995, our Community Center is now in its tenth year of use. In the center's first year of operation, it was rented more that 260 times and an estimated total of 25,000 people came through the building. It has been used for everything from Civic club meetings, teenage and adult dances, and church events, wedding receptions, district wide farm expos, and state and local meetings. The Delta Arts and Crafts Fair is held the second weekend of November each year.
The most frequently used portion of the center is the small meeting room. Up to 100 people can fit in this room which is equipped with a kitchenette. The rental rate for the small meeting room is $25.00 per hour. Directly behind it is the large meeting room, about twice as large and can accommodate up to 250 visitors. However, it has no sink, stove, or refrigerator. The large room rents for $50 an hour. A divider wall hangs between the two meeting rooms and can be drawn back for large gatherings. Renting the combination of both large and small rooms will cost an organizer $65 per hour, with up to 350 people seated comfortably. In 2003 we had a $500,000 expansion to better serve the needs of our users. A new room was created for more formal meetings, it rents for $30 per hour.
An even larger option is the 15,000 square-foot exhibition hall, which has a concrete floor and heat and air conditioned. The rental rate for this space is $100 per hour, or $150 with air conditioning..
For very small gatherings, the community center offers a conference room, which can accommodate up to 15 persons and features 12 luxury executive chairs circling a rectangular wooden table. The conference room rents for $20 per hour. There is a $75 flat fee for any group or individual wishing to use the center's kitchen, which is equipped with restaurant quality equipment.
